I often hear business owners say their strategy is to be the best in their industry! While I understand the sentiment, it is dead wrong!
There is no best. “Being the Best” is a losing strategy. Actually, it is not a strategy at all. It is a best practice and lives in the realm of organizational structure. Keeping up with your industry’s best practices is the cost of admission, and while it is a significant effort, don’t confuse it with a strategy.
